The Huron County Economic Development Corporation (HCEDC) works to support and strengthen Huron County’s industrial, agricultural, and commercial economy through business expansion, retention, and attraction efforts. As part of this mission, HCEDC is working with the City of Harbor Beach and the private property owners to plan for the future of the former DTE coal-powered plant site at 755 N. Huron Avenue.

This effort is in the early planning phase. HCEDC has commissioned McKenna & Metro Consulting Associates to prepare a feasibility study that will help identify what types of redevelopment may be possible on the site, based on community input, market conditions, and environmental considerations. The study is intended to provide information that can assist the private property owners as they consider future development options.
